Every person, rich or common,

With their hopes and vulgar cares,

They, too, loved and then were parted;

Joys and griefs alike were theirs.

Many mindsets, moods, and quarrels—

Not all see things eye to eye.

Differences notwithstanding,

All are mortal and must die.

Rain shall fall alike on all men,

On the just and the corrupt.

None escape the final judgment;

Death shall all lives interrupt.

When we look back on our lifetimes,

Measure not by happiness;

But through virtue, grace, and reverence

Shall we find a surer rest.
