Description
I composed "Meditation" in Troy, New York, on February 12, 2010, setting the tune in common time. I found this text from Isaac Watts later that day and reset the song in triple time toward the end of the month, agreeing with Lauren Bock that though triple time fuging tunes are hard to find this tune sings more naturally in that mode.
Text
My God, permit me not to be
A stranger to myself and thee;
Amidst a thousand thoughts I rove,
Forgetful of my highest love.
Why should my passions mix with earth,
And thus debase my heav'nly birth?
Why should I cleave to things below,
And let my God, my Savior, go?
