Description
I wrote "Ezekiel's Vision" in Los Angeles, on the last night of a trip spent researching early twentieth-century Sacred Harp scholar George Pullen Jackson's annotations on his collection of tunebooks. The anthem is my second attempt to set a text from chapter 8 of the book of Ezekiel.
Text
I beheld, and lo a likeness as the appearance of fire.
And he put forth the form of an hand, and took me by a lock of mine head; and the spirit lifted me up between the earth and the heaven, and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem.
And, behold, the glory of God was there.
