Description

Written from the text, September-December, 2008; Walker is named for Michael Walker of London, UK, a great friend, singer, and promoter of Sacred Harp singing in the UK and elsewhere in Europe. (Michael has also been a great advocate for this song since it was new. I renamed it in his honor in 2012 as a token of my appreciation for his continuing encouragement of my efforts as a tunewriter.) It has been sung at the 2009 Camp Fasola Youth and Adult Session Composiums, as well as by The Art Mob in their Spring, 2009 concerts. Walker appears on p. 256 of the fifth edition of Northern Harmony (2012).

Text

Jerusalem, my happy home,
Oh how I long for thee!
When will my sorrows have an end?
Thy joys when shall I see?

Thy walls are all of precious stone,
Most glorious to behold!
Thy gates are richly set with pearl,
Thy streets are pav'd with gold.

Behold, thy streets are pav'd with gold!
