Description

Named for John Fawcett (1739-1817), the author of the text set here, as well as "Religion is the chief concern" (pp. 205 and 330b in The Sacred Harp). This tune was sung in November, 2009 at the home of Chris Brown and Judy Whiting in Elland, West Yorkshire, only a few miles from Fawcett's home. It was also performed by The Art Mob in their Winter, 2009 concerts.

Text

Humble souls, who seek salvation
Through the Lamb's redeeming blood,
Hear the voice of revelation,
Tread the path that Jesus trod.

Hear the blest Redeemer call you,
Listen to his heav'nly voice;
Dread no ills that can befall you,
While you make his way your choice.

Plainly here his footsteps tracing,
Follow him without delay;
Gladly his command embracing,
Lo! your Captain leads the way.
