Description

Named for Oneida, New York; longtime residence of Rev. Lewis Hartsough (1828-1919), musical editor of The Revivalist camp meeting songbook (Troy, NY; 1868), and author of the text. (Please see Round Lake and Hillman for other songs with connections to Hartsough and The Revivalist.) This tune was sung at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Oneida as part of their Sunday worship service in August, 2008; and by Cantorae St. Augustine of St. Augustine, Florida in their May, 2011 concert.

Text

Let me go where saints are going,
To the mansions of the blest;
Let me go where my redeemer
Has prepar’d his people’s rest.

I would gain the realms of brightness,
Where they dwell forevermore,
I would join the friends that wait me
Over on that heav'nly shore.

Let me go where none are weary,
Where is rais’d no wail of woe,
Let me go and bathe my spirit
In the raptures angels know,

I would gain the realms of brightness,
Where they dwell forevermore,
I would join the friends that wait me
Over on that heav'nly shore.

Let me go where tears and sighing
Are forever made unknown,
Where the joyful songs of glory
Call me to a happier home.

I would gain the realms of brightness,
Where they dwell forevermore,
I would join the friends that wait me
Over on that heav'nly shore.
