This text is based on Deuteronomy 32. Thomas Kelly was a prolific hymn-writer, and an evangelical minister who broke with the Church of Ireland in 1803.

As the dew from heav’n distilling
Gently on the grass descends
And revives it, thus fulfilling
What thy providence intends,
