Description

I wrote this song on December 4, 2013, as a setting of Watts's poem "Spare us, O Lord, aloud we pray." I named the song for Gadsden, Alabama, where Jeff and Shelbie Sheppard lived for a number of years.

Text

Spare us, O Lord, aloud we pray,
Nor let our sun go down at noon;
Thy years are one eternal day,
And must thy children die so soon?
I tremble lest the wrath divine,
Which bruises now my wretched soul
Should bruise this wretched soul of mine
Long as eternal ages roll.
